The rustling of the wind through the overgrown weeds of Mrs. Gable’s garden felt like fingers scratching at Amelia's nerves. She’d been staring at the property line for an hour, the plans for a fence clutched so tightly in her hand that the paper was beginning to wrinkle. Her jaw clenched, and she chewed at the inside of her cheek.

A car door slammed next door, and Amelia jumped, her heart leaping into her throat. She peered through the blinds, spotting Mr. Henderson sauntering out, a confident smirk plastered across his face. He’d be starting the construction soon.
